"Is Pain Necessary?"

Revisiting this tribe for the first time in a long time, I got to see years' worth of postings in new light and with hindsight.

Reading the introductory notes, I once again encounter the question, "Is pain necessary?"

I've been quoting this for years, but I've just been reminded of it again, a line from May Sarton's novel _Mrs. Stevens Hears the Mermaids Singing_, in which the main character says,

"Something comes along to open us up, and it's always terrible."

I guess pain comes with the territory. I don't believe it's the pain that is necessary, but I find that opening usually involves breaking, and breaking is usually painful. Therein lies the terribleness. Not always, but usually.

Pain, I venture to say, is not necessary... but it is nearly always involved.

my perhaps favorite poem

I love this poem here so much - it's probably my favorite among all German poems (as is the poet - Novalis)

I couldn't find an English translation - so I tried to translate it into English myself. It doesn't sound as beautiful as it does in German,
I still want to share it though ...

It's heart warming to see that heart centered people all over the world see finally the same ...
Novalis was also the one who was saying "The heart is the key of life and of the universe"
(unfortunately he died aged 28)

And now the poem:

new and wish to say hi

Thank you for this site and would like to express a little of the way of the heart.
Seems i was very stubborn. :0
right from chilhood, life here was not that which i felt within, it was cold and harsh and what humans did to each other and the Earth tore me apart.
Anything i tried to grab to be happy, find love, find my place here, find comfort, and all the other things we humans seek out side self for, fell apart in my hands.
So this journey to the heart could not be completed untill i let go of all i knew of self, believes, dreams, wants needs, upbringing, mass consciousness and all the conditioning in this life and others. Hard, hell yea lol
But looking back, one can see it is all through the grace of something bigger than self that these gifts have been given.
the older one gets, the less one knows, but finaly i feel like i have come home, here within, for this is where all resides that i was seeking in life.
Love and thank you for this chance to express, words are hard when mind does not understand the way of the heart. xxxxxxxxxxxx

you grow by suffering

Do you think that's true?

As long you live in your "comfort zone" there is no need to change anything - and so you stand still, in a way. I wouldn't go that far that you are dead, but you are kind of "comfortably numb".

But once your life changes dramatically and you are forced to leave your comfort zone, you develop energies that you had seldom been aware of. These forces are INSIDE yourself - they are always there. They just need to get awakened. And very often I think we need some dramatical event to trigger this switch inside us ... and release the energies in ourselves ...

you and the world

Very often I think, actually feel that we are not just all connected, but that the whole humanity behaves as a whole very similar to each individual.

When you were a child you were innocent, didn't value anything, but enjoyed the world around you as it is.
When humanity was in it's early stages (not primitive stages!!!!), it was very similar - the world was a miracle, a beautiful miracle, that makes us live & love and enjoy the beauty of life and love.

Deep suffering very often leads to a boost in your spiritual development or even to enlightenment.
And the humanity? I think it's the same.
Does humanity need a huge global catastrophe to wake up?
Unfortunately I think, yes.

but there are times ... and I feel so much that these times are NOW ... that we need to decide:
do we stand for love or for war:

Thus the December 21, 2012 AD is not the day where all of the sudden a light switch will flip on and everything will change, rather, we are NOW in the process of this transition from one World Age to the next. The changes are underway and will continue steadily accelerating as we head towards the culminating date!

The ancient Maya understood this 26,000 year cycle to be specifically composed of 5 lesser cycles, each 5,125 years each. Each of these 5 cycles was considered its own World Age or Creation Cycle. As depicted on the familiar, circular MesoAmerican Sun Stone, (often called the Aztec Calendar) each Creation Cycle is said to have been ruled and destroyed by one of 5 elements. Specifically, 4 Jaguar, 4 Wind, 4 Rain, 4 Water.

Our present great cycle (3113 B.C. - 2012 A.D.) is called the Age of the Fifth Sun. This time period is ruled by 4 Earth. This fifth age is the synthesis of the previous four. 4 Earth (called Caban in the Maya language and Ollin in Aztec) has several meanings, including: movement, shift, evolution, earthquake, navigation, synchronicity, clue tracking, turtle. In the Maya language, the word "ol" of ollin means consciousness.

In Mayan calendrics, the initial date that Earth entered the Fifth World was August 13, 3113 BC, written in Mayan long count notation as 13.0.0.0.0. Every day from that point was reckoned by the number of days passed since the event of this cosmic beginning point.

As Dr. Jose Arguelles writes in "Time and The Technosphere" -
"August 13, 3113 BC is as precise and accurate as one can get for a beginning of history: the first Egyptian dynasty is dated to ca 3100 BC; the first 'city,' Uruk, in Mesopotamia, also ca 3100 BC; the Hindu Kali Yuga, 3102 BC; and most interestingly, the division of time into 24 hours of 60 minutes each and each minute into 60 seconds [and the division of the circle into 360 degrees], also around 3100 BC, in Sumeria. If the beginning of history was so accurately placed, then must not the end of history, December 21, 2012 also be as accurate?"

(Sidenote: Regarding the World Age cycle we are closing in 2012 and the new World Age cycle to dawn, there are varying cosmologies as to whether we are closing the Fifth World and entering the Sixth, or closing the Fourth World and entering the Fifth. For example, In the perspective of the living Maya Timekeepers of Guatemala, calendrically speaking, each element has a 5,125 year cycle. They teach that we have been through fire, earth, air and water already. The next cycle (beginning Dec 21, 2012) will be ether - the Fifth Age - the Age of Center. Likewise, the Hopi teach we are closing the Fourth World of Destruction, and preparing to begin the Fifth World of Peace. Regardless of the title given, what is clear is that we are on poised on the brink of a World Age Rebirth!)

Within the 5,125 year cycle lies 13 smaller cycles, known as the "13 Baktun Count," or the "long count." Each baktun cycle is 394 years long, or 144,000 days. Each baktun was its own historical epoch or Age within the Great Creation Cycle, carrying a specific destiny for the evolution of those who incarnated in each baktun. For example, almost all of the Mayan inscriptions were seeded precisely during Baktun 9 (435-830 AD). This era is known as the time of the Classic Maya. After this point, around 830 A.D., the great Mayan centers were abandoned and their thriving culture mysteriously disappeared. To this day, no one can verify or prove why they left or where they went.

The Classic Maya of Baktun 9 were of a specific destiny, distinct from Maya of other times. As Dr. Jose Arguelles writes, "In 830 A.D. the engineering team departed back to space, back to the other dimensions from which the Maya keep their watch on things. Slowly the terrestrial Maya melted back into the jungles. The time of darkness was setting in. Sure enough the conquerors came. By 830 A.D. Warrior tribes who took the ancient name of Toltec, which means Master Builder, entered the Yucatan. War and human sacrifice were introduced."

Earth and her inhabitants are currently travelling through the 13th baktun cycle - the final period of 1618-2012 AD. This cycle is known both as "the triumph of materialism" and "the transformation of matter." The Maya predicted this final baktun would be a time of great forgetting in which we drift very far from our sense of Oneness with Nature and experience a kind of collective amnesia. Like a memory virus in which we begin to believe the limited reality of appearances and grow dense to the spiritual essence which fuels this world, so humanity's sense of ego and domination has grown.

We entered this baktun cycle right after establishing the world wide coordination of Pope Gregory XIII's 12 month calendar system (1582) as well as the perfection of 12 hour 60-minute mechanical clock (1600), which had been evolving for centuries. These are no small matters. According to Valum Votan, these 2 instruments are what manifested humanity's "error in time" which is the following of artificial instruments of time that served to separate man apart from the rest of nature, operating by our own false timing frequency, to the detriment of the natural world.

The Gregorian calendar is not based on logic, science, or nature. It denies and covers up the true annual human biological cycle conserved in the body of woman. It is the current world standard because of the forceful issuance of this system upon conquered (indigenous) peoples who lost their land as well as their religious freedoms. The Gregorian calendar is a product of its predecessors - Julius Caesar's calendar and the earlier Roman Empire calendar.

The clock was the first existing machine - going on to become the heart of all machine technology to come.

The presence of the clock gave birth to the notion that time lies outside our bodies - that it can be tracked by a machine, and that we can sit and watch it "fly" by tick-tock as though it is something linear, containable, and separate from the organic, flowing process of life. The adherence to the clock for our sense of time and timing is noted as the greatest obstacle to allowing the full telepathic abilities of the human to flower.

Next came the Cartesian Coordinate Rectilinear Grid System (1637) which went on to establish the foundational platform of all modern math and science. Thanks to Rene Descartes (the man infamous for his quote "I think therefore I am,") the ceiling of perception validated only the reality of the 3 dimensions of physical space. The coordinates of X,Y, and Z rendered the fourth dimension obsolete from our worldview.

At that moment, time became reduced from its qualitative essence to that of a quantity. The mind who adopted the lens of the linear grid also adopted the limited perception of time as a 3rd dimensional linear progression of pure duration.

Our societal paradigms have continued to operate with these limitations in place. Thus if something can not be seen, touched, or proven with measurements, it does not, in effect, exist.

Through the Cartesian lens, Nature has become reduced to pure quantifiable resources - no longer a living qualitative aspect of ourselves, but now something outside of ourselves which we observe, analyze and ultimately come to replicate, manipulate, dominate, toxify, and even destroy or extinguish. As Rene Descartes stated plainly,"I perceived it to be possible to arrive at knowledge highly useful in life...and thus render ourselves the lords and possessors of nature."

It seems the modern world wants nothing more than to improve upon Nature, or at least extract her wisdoms and magical properties in order to make a buck by fulfilling increasing consumer demand.

And so, here we are - currently living the last 7 years of both a 5,125 year Creation Cycle, and the last 8 years of a 26,000 Grand Cycle, the Precession of the Equinoxes.

The coming end date of December 21, 2012 is also written as 13.0.0.0.0. in Mayan long count notation; just like the beginning date.

Scholar and author John Major Jenkins reports,"On 13.0.0.0.0, the December solstice sun will be found in the band of the Milky Way. We can call this an alignment between the galactic plane and the solstice meridian. This is an event that has slowly converged over a period of thousands of years, and is caused by the precession of the equinoxes. The place where the December solstice sun crosses the Milky Way is precisely the location of the "dark-rift in the Milky Way...'xibalba be' - the road to the underworld."

On the winter solstice of 2012, the noonday Sun exactly conjuncts the crossing point of the sun's ecliptic with the galactic plane, while also closely conjuncting the exact the center of the galaxy.

Jenkins further proposes that this grand cross in time is symbolized by the Mayan Tree of Life, found at the core of Mayan cosmology.

We are being invited to realize that we are Time. We are the Living Prophecy. The Synchronic Order of Natural Time governs the unfolding of our lives. Time's cycles are found within our bodies and within Nature's daily rhythms and cyclic seasons. We have forgotten this, thinking that time is money or that time is the clock, or the relentless progression of work weeks and weekends. Time is the ever-changing, unfolding Now as it synchronistically coordinates the Whole living Universe.

From his studies into ancient Mayan Time-Science, Dr. Jose Arguelles decoded the mathematical nature of the Synchronic Order,
The Law of Time:
There is only one timing frequency which unifies the whole galactic order from its largest constituent to its smallest. This timing frequency is the 13:20 ratio, found within the harmonic structure of the 13 moon calendar as well as our human bodies - our 13 main joints and 20 fingers and toes.

Knowing that we are the prophecy, what does it mean to be nearing this return, and what can we expect - personally as well as planetarily?

It is for us to decipher how to live our lives with integrity; to determine what truths empower us to model our lives according to our greatest harmonious potential.

All that is manifesting on the inner and outer planes reflects the sacred intensity of these prophetic times. More than ever, the polarities and imbalances within us and around us are becoming clearer. Love, beauty, exuberance, and compassion permeate this world - multi-faceted victories of art, co-creation, community support, healing and evolution shine all around us, illumating the spirited grace of our true nature. Meanwhile, this world is steeped in fear, brutality, pain, and disease - endless anguish of anxiety, separation, disconnection, confusion, isolation - alongside the toxic realities of egoic, callous greed and corruption, materialism, addiction, and dangerous ignorance. This is now the time to embrace all that has been dishonored or denied, for it is emerging to be purified and sanctified. Accountability is required on all levels of our existence. The cosmic climate is changing at rapid rates, allowing us to now transduce and shed egoic programs of fear and limitation easier than in the past.

Science reveals that Earth's base resonant frequency is increasing (Earth's heart-beat), and that the magnetic fields of the planet are dropping - reflected in the shifting migration patterns of animals. These shiftings of the Earth's body allow us to release unwanted baggage - mental, physical and emotional patterns, conditioning, beliefs, attitudes, and programming. The following is posted not as 'someone else's' writing, but as a message from
Heart. It resonates with what is known here and has been spoken before, is well
written, expresses clearly and simply this perspective that is at the core of
the world situation and very much worth sharing.

Spirituality is important, but we live in a world that is falling apart and
that has to be addressed if we are to have time to evolve beyond the ego.
Awakening is not just for you; it is for all life on this planet. If we do not
bring about a true transformation of our species, we will not have a species
and we may take all others with us.

We all have a great responsibility in what takes place in the life of this
planet. Not from an ego dream self feeling it is doing some good thing for
something else, but seeing we are one with all life and in that seeing we
naturally do what is best for all of life.

You hear many spiritual teachers saying we are not responsible, and it is true
there is no one to be responsible, but Wisdom has its own action. When one
awakens there is left both the seeing through the eye of Wisdom and a mix of
the conditioned life. We are no longer lost in that conditioning but it is
still there in much of our day to day dealing with life. Just using the words
we do is conditioning.

Sometimes teachers will talk about how nothing exists, that it is all a dream,
yet they worry over bills, drive a car, eat at least three meals a day and
enjoy sex. Nothing exists as the ideas we carry in our minds. That is a dream
process in which the ego has its imaginary hold on what seems to be us. Yet,
what we perceive, the suchness of things, still exists even if ultimately it is
seen to be a holographic dream image. We cannot just ignore what is taking
place on our home planet. A major part of the awakening of the mind is to see
the facts as they are now. Putting our heads in a spiritual/religious hole and
staying blind to what is going on will lead us all to the grave.

Our government and big business greed is killing our environment. With utter
disregard for future life, they go on polluting and destroying everything that
stands in their way. The government/big business is a perfect example of the
ego process. It functions from a constant state of insecurity. This state of
insecurity lets them justify anything they wish to do. Control is what the ego
wants and it is just as true of governments and corporations. Of course,
organized religion is another big business with the same problems of control as
do the governments.

It is easy, in most cases, for the government to control the people. They use
the same old ego games on us. Put fear in the masses, promise security and the
hope of someday being as rich as they are, and people will jump through any
hoop you put before them. Use nationalism and wave the flags of any nation and
the people will be ready to kill in the name of their country. Business uses
this as much as governments. There is no place, where governments leave off and
big business begins. They are the same thing. Business controls government,
government controls the people.

In these last few years, we have seen how our government has used the
insecurity of the people to gain far too much control over us. We have seen our
constitution covered over in the name of security. We are far less secure today
than we have ever been. We have become far more isolated and have more people
from other countries hating us than we ever have. We have seen how our military
has not only killed thousands of innocent people but also polluted their land
for all time with depleted uranium warheads. All the evil we try to show other
countries having is nothing compared to what we have been doing. Yet, we go on
acting as though we are always the good guys.

This must end and the only way it can end is for people to truly awaken. Not
only environmentally and politically, but also spiritually. We cannot fight
governments and make things better. To do so would be to fall into the same war
games they have used on everyone else. We need to see the truth and share what
we see with all that will listen. However, more important than anything else we
need to see the ignorance in ourselves and how we too try to control everything
in our lives to feel secure. Governments are just a larger expression of what
we all, as ego, carry in ourselves. As we awaken we can no longer be lied to,
we will no longer look outside of ourselves for security and we will act out of
love. Only then can we call ourselves truly human. Only then will we see our
real relationship with all of Life.

This is a very serious matter, more serious than anything else in our lives. It
means life or death for us all. If you think I am being too dramatic just take
a clear look at what has been happening in the world for the last few hundred
years and it has been intensifying lately. You all know what I am saying is
true. It is not going to change by itself. Each of us have to see this clearly
and out of that seeing action will take place. You may feel helpless in making
any changes in the out side world, but you can do something more important
within your own being. That is where the heart of the problem lies. You can
make a real revolutionary change within. Not you as ego, but by going beyond
your own dream you can clearly see the nightmare the ego has brought to the
world. It is up to each of us, now.

May sound silly at a first glance - but, I think, once you HAVE nothing (in the first place it feels like you lost everything) you get able to feel that you GOT everything:
You become able to fly, you can taste the sky and hear the butterflies laughing (like in one of my favorite poems) ... all you REALLY want

All ownership is unimportant - otherwise it turns into a prison.

This tribe is for all who have either passed or are immediately before this line that separates the cold comfortable life from life in change and freedom.

This tribe is to encourage everybody who has some fears or doubts about the life beyond "that line". I'd wish really every human being on earth to enjoy the full beauty of life - what seems possible only with a freed heart.

I will start this tribe with how and why my life changed so significantly, even if I wrote it already in another tribe.

I was not unhappy in my life but also not very happy. I felt comfortable in my life, somehow like a bird in its cage ... i.e. I felt there must be something more, but I still didn't move much ...

Then, about 18 months ago I fell in love - and my heart was crying loudly that I have to follow that love, and without knowing exactly why, I followed my heart (probably first time in my life) and left my house, my family (wife and son), almost my job, the city where I was used to live the last few years.
I moved into one tiny house (36sqm) where I lived with my "true love" ... this lastet about three months - then she left me ... and terribly enough: back to her former partner (a well known physician), back into her comfortable house or better "comfort zone".
On the day she left me I lost everything ... so I thought first ...
At least it was clear to me that I cannot go back - that ther must be a meaning for all that, what I experienced the last few months - it cannot be for nothing. A way back was for me like volunteering to go back into a dead zone - after I breathed some of the fresh air outside ...
Perhaps the comparison to the bird in the cage makes it more clear - as long he just knows his cage - he is not happy, but also not sad. But once being outside for some significant time - it will be difficult to go back into the cage - at least he knows now that there are two ways to decide: comfort & security or freedom & love.

I needed to thud on the bottom of life to "wake up".
And I realized that I may have lost something - but at the same time I found the most important: myself

I started to meditate, read fabulous books and ... found this tribe ...
I'm on my way ... one never ending journey to discover and enjoy myself and the world in the now, again and again, this is what I consider as life.

And just to make the original story complete - meanwhile my son followed me, we are living together. And after my heart got the freedom it needs, it came what had to come: I found my love ...

my story

hello
found my way here to this tribe today
and felt that it would be proper to share where i'm at

I have been experiencing a duality in myself
for a while now
seeing my heart
and where i'm at
as two different things

so slowly i've been merging them

and it took me a while to come to where i'm at now
which is a springboard for where i'm going

anyways
i recently realized that in order to connect with my heart
to connect with my path
i had to do it alone
so i broke up with someone that i loved
but knew that the relationship was holding me back
so there is still emotions being processed and there has been pain
but the path to the heart is all that we have
that raw experience with life
that ingrained moment after moment
burning into you
newness all around
not knowing what happens next
not getting too comfy
simply letting go and understanding where your lessons lie
it's not easy to do
but it is so empowering to do it
to say what i need is more important in my life than anything
to reject outside influence
it's been something very difficult for me to do
so this was a very big event in my life.

I've learned to listen to my heart more
and i'm still learning alot
it's hard to break habits
to change routines
for a fleeting feeling
deep inside
it's hard to trust it sometimes
because the changes it calls for are scary
but those feelings don't go away
and they just keep asking you
'what the hell are you doing?'
'why haven't you listened??'

there are only paths with heart
and the second you realize you're not on one
find it

I very recently realized "I know Love."

Something really special happened at some point in my life recently. I don't know when it happened. I don't know how. I just now know beyond doubt that it has happened.

I am aware of Love.

I must say, this one awareness transcends every other realization I've had in my lifetime.

I know Love.

Love is an awareness that I am made of the same stuff that everything is made of. The Consciousness that animates the body I'm aware of is the same Consciousness that emanates from all things. And when there is movement of things, it is Consciousness shifting.

Knowing that I am made of the same essence as all of Life, there is a pervading awe and adoration that emanates from my beingness out to All That Is and then back from All That Is to me. This interflow feels like breathing, for this back-and-forth of this adoration and awe isn't "chosen" or consciously engaged, it happens on its own, just like my breathing.

And just as it is the silent process of breathing that permeates all spoken words and all movement of body to and fro and all still moments of meditation, it is this silent flow of adoration and awe that permeates all that emanates from my beingness to All That Is and from All That Is to my beingness. Even as it is breath that allows us to speak of death and of not-breathing and of hateful things, it is this silent process of Love that allows us to be not-Love, or to manifest the absence of Love. In this sense, this process of Love is in and through All That Is.

I very seldom am ever unaware of this silent Lovingness that emanates to and from self, though my level of awareness of this Lovingness does fluctuate. I normally notice my spirits low, and then rejuvenate my connection to All That Is by paying more attention to the Beauty of All. This seems to reinvigorate my awareness of Love as the Breathing of Life.

heart of now/our transformation as a group

these are the writings i did after completing the "Heart of Now" workshop that is guided by the teachers from Lost Valley Educational Center in Dexter, Oregon.

Transformation: an act, process, or instance of transforming
or being transformed. The formula that effects such a
change; the operations of changing one configuration or
expression into another.

This past weekend came to be after a couple of years
of talking about and imagining such an event to happen
and be shared by our group. Because of numerous
circumstances the plans changed and we opted not to go
on location to the Naka Ima workshop, as originally
intended. Instead it came to be that the teachers and
assistants from Lost Valley Educational Center were
willing to come to us, at Three Springs Community, to
lead their Heart of Now workshop.

Kim, Kaseja, Chris and Lisa, drove 13+ hours from
Dexter, Oregon to our home in North Fork, California.
My only contact with Kim had been through emails and
one telephone conversation, thus our group was
basically stepping into the workshop with faith and
trust in the unknown. When our guests arrived, at
11pm, I met them in the parking lot and it was hard to
see their faces. Yet, in this dimly lit environment,
the immediate connection from hugging brought forth a
welcomed warmth. I was excited to share more in the
introductions once inside our community kitchen house.
Some other Three Springs members were also waiting to
meet our guests. After an hour or so, we all wandered
off to bed. And so was to begin our Heart of Now
workshop… little did I know that what was going to be
experienced, would be beyond anything I could have
every dreamed of or imagined to happen between a group
of people.

We were initiated into the workshop with a lesson on
breathing deeply. We were taught to use this
involuntary life function to reveal the present
moment, attune to body sensations, calm down, and
discover the source of feelings and thoughts.
Following this, we sat in a circle and used a “talking
stick” to share our intentions for the weekend. My
intention was to crack open my heart, to further know
truths of myself, so that I could be more loving and
joyful towards others. I also wanted to learn how to
better communicate my inner reality.

Next we were to look into each other’s eyes. This was
prefaced with the guidance to just look, stay present,
be here now. Also during the exercise, we were
reminded to let go of any thoughts that came up about
the other person. For me, to consciously stand before
another, to look and be witnessed, initially felt very
exposing and vulnerable. In time I calmed and started
to soak in the other persons presence. Even though I
lived with this extended family of friends for 2-9
years, I felt like I was seeing something new about
each one of them and myself. This was done without
talking and this felt really good.

The “milling” exercise brought our voices into play.
In pairs, one person had to speak and the other person
had to just listen and say thank you. This went on for
a while so that most people paired up and spoke a
heart felt thought to each other. I felt that having a
history from living together for so long made this
activity very potent. The content of people’s
expressions reflected the personal relationship of
knowing each other. I found myself speaking words of
apology, praise, fear, love and hope.

As time passed, a new trust to express and be seen was
being established. Later, we worked in pairs, taking
turns, one-person asked questions and the other person
answered. As the questioner, we were instructed to
listen and be curious about each answer and then ask a
relevant question to the answer just given. This went
on for some time and the continual questioning was
like a stepping-stone path. By being so attentive to
following up on what was just said, information was
disclosed from a deeper source. In my dyad, my partner
was my boyfriend of 8 years. In time, the exercise
brought us face to face with a mutual barrier of fear.
Feeling too vulnerable, this brought our dialog to a
standstill. When reconvening with the group, I shared
my feeling of excruciating frustration. Some others
also reached blockages. My communication breakdown
felt like an old pattern that I wanted to look at more
closely. An inner voice whispered…help. And I
questioned, were there any structured communication
skills that could ease this tension and release the
blockages? I no longer want to shut down or
irrationally emote.

We moved into a more formal style of teaching and were
given a packet of printed material entitled Giving
Constructive Feedback-what we used to think of as
criticism. As a group, we read and discussed these
guidelines that brought forth a common language that
literally put us all on the same page. The focus of
this new dialog style was to speak in the “I”, be
specific about the behaviors one is reacting to, share
what one is feeling, and clearly express the thoughts
behind the arising reactions. With patience and
persistence, we were learning how to speak to one
another in a way that allowed for honest expression
and mutual understanding. We formed groups that were
observed by a teacher or assistant and we practiced,
and practiced. Slowly we were dropping our guard,
sharing our stories, and peeling off the layers of
years and lifetimes of protective armor.

A safe foundation of trust and respect permeated the
room. Volunteers were called forth and a married
couple stepped forward to allow us to witness them use
this dialog format to work through tension in their
relationship around feeling honored and appreciated. I
felt compassion and empathy as they revealed their
fears and tears. I felt my heart opening to the
realization that we are not separate in our suffering
and pain, and we need to touch the void within and
delve into the darkness of this inner abyss. In there
are the answers that will free our spirits to soar, if
one is willing to seek and question.

As the exercises melded into one another, each potent
day of deeply shared encounters blended into a
continual energy of conscious present time power. I
lost track of the separate days and the activities of
each day. It seemed like the whole group was being
transported into another realm of existence.

In a short time, my ability to attune to my feelings
and speak honestly was expanding. We formed triads and
each one of us had to speak for 25 minutes. In the
past I would have felt intimidated and vulnerable to
be in the spotlight, however, the previous exercises
formed a foundation of trust to share in a very
intimate way. For me, I felt courageous to speak of
long held resentments with members in my triad. I was
heard, discussion flowed and a renewed connection to
our relationships was established. In another triad, I
witnessed my friend delve into his past, and breakdown
in uncontrolled emotion and tears. I was so moved that
I joined the assistants that supported him, by loving,
holding and hugging him also. So far this was the most
profound breakthrough that anyone in our group
experienced. I felt the energy in the room shift as
the transference of so much stored his-story coursed
through my friend’s consciousness and slowly
dissolved. The 12-year-old boy of the past finally had
his voice spoken through this 44-year-old man. I was
taken with the skills that the folks from Lost Valley
brought forth to so gracefully guide my friend into
his blocked memories. Though weary, coming back to
present time reality, he appeared refreshed with a
sense of peace and greater wholeness.

The power of this exercise stripped the layers of
opacity between the people in our group, and further
cleared space for our true spirits to more freely
emerge. It was becoming obvious to me that though we
were participating as individuals, the journey through
this workshop was showing that we are linked together
by numerous invisible threads of human conditioning.
The false thoughts of our human separation were being
transformed into expressions of our Heart of Now.
For the remainder of our time, dispersed amongst
home-cooked meals and improvisational dance sessions,
we each had an opportunity to immerse into the
poignant inner work of the “Platform”. We arranged the
room so the group could witness an individual on a
makeshift stage. Each one of us stepped forth to be in
this vulnerable position, as the teachers guided the
journey within. Noting that time was not a factor in
the Platform, direction was given to breathe, make eye
contact with everyone from the stages vantage point,
breathe deeper, observe the bodies’ sensations, attune
to core level feelings and notice the thoughts behind
them. Having to speak these thoughts aloud triggered
in many long held and buried memories. For some visual
imagery appeared, for others parental and childhood
influences surfaced from years ago, for most even
deeper feelings of pain, craziness, struggle,
numbness, sorrow arose. Again reminded to breathe
deeper and describe the thoughts behind the feelings,
often caused anguished tears to flow and extremely
humbling emotions to be vented.

During my turn, I initially focused on the sensations
of what felt like a mask worn over my face for a very
long time. This was associated with the idea that I
have to maintain beauty and be vane about my body.
This related to feelings of not looking acceptable
when I was growing up. I carried thoughts that
something must be wrong with me since I was being told
to put on make-up, wear certain styles of clothing,
and adorn jewelry. Going further in I confronted
failure of not living up to my parents dreams and
expectations for me, and then I recalled a deep seeded
memory of knowing that my father did not want to marry
and have children. My resentments surfaced and
emotions swirled, and this was great, because I was
now able to describe the pains that patterned my life.
Next my attachment to these thoughts and habits needed
letting go. The teachers suggested I use “role play”.
It was here that I disclosed pent up feelings towards
my father. What had previously gotten caught in my
throat, whenever I tried talking to my dad flowed in a
free, clear voice. What a release!

This radical vulnerability brought forth personal
transformation, not only for the person going through
the experience, but in the witnesses as well. We were
being infused with empathy, compassion and endearment.
The web of invisible threads that connected our human
conditionings were now being woven into a blanket of
open hearts and entwined soaring spirits.
There is a way of being together as humans where love
and connection, feeling safe and open can exist. It is
not a dream or an imagining. It is real. I am living
it now, more so than ever, and I am witnessing it in
the members of my community. We now manifest, with
great success, our intention of living together in
right relationship and harmony since completing the
Heart of Now workshop. I am deeply grateful to the
visionaries that believe in this work and offer it to
those willing to participate. I categorize this work
in the realm of “making a difference” for humanity and
the planet.

Looking at you, seeing me

I was just looking at a couple of people's pictures and noticing it was possible to melt a bit and feel like I'm looking at myself

This feels like an interesting space to explore, so I'm offering it up as a possible meditation exercise for anybody curious
Because things come up and are revealed in exploring that space

Not sure how to describe it, maybe others have tips as well
But, basically:

Look at a photo of another person
Start by tuning into your own essence-feeling or some open-hearted vibe of your own that feels like you
Then notice if that feeling seems to exist in a kinda sorta way within the person you are looking at
Then dissolve/melt/shift until those feelings meet;
And while you do that allow in a kind of dreamy way, yourself to recognize the photo as possibly a picture of you
Can help to let your vision soften/blur when exploring this
I guess also it can include a sense of recognizing sameness on a physical appearance level, including gesture, glance, style, etc, or be more just a being-feeling at some depth or other

You can also do the reverse
Find a characteristic vibe coming from the person in the photo
What energy is alive in their body/face in the photo?
Then find that vibe within yourself
And again, bridge/explore a link between the two

Seems like it works real different with different people, and sometimes may feel more natural, others more like a stretch

I wonder if the space of consciousness the person was in at the time of the picture matters, not in terms of their emotions so much, but the 'simple sense of being'

God does not belong to a religion.

Tonight, i attended mass.

I was baptised catholic when i was born. When i reached my teen years i started doubting religion. Most religions out there are just a group of corrupt people making people believe a bunch of nonsense. Though some of this nonsense is true and is taken right out of the Bible, most of the time this people spend it telling other less educated individuals that their neighbors religion is not the right one and that they should try to bring their neighbors into the religion they're in.

Lately, in my own community i have seen a great dispute between Jehova's witnesses and catholics. they both try to get people from eachothers religion and bring them into their own. That was the reason that made me quit going to any church related activities for the past year. In the past month i have had many relationship problems. The person i gave my whole life to has finally decided that no longer wants to be with me. it took me endless nights and days crying to finally come to a conclusion: I have lost her forever.

But Tonight, my mom, a 57 year old fully-devoted catholic invited me to mass. i could not say no to the lady that i love the most on this world.
Finally, after almost a year of discomfort, i feel peace inside of me. I have finally found the courage to forgive everyone who has done any harm or in any was has hurt me, and to ask for forgiveness from them. It had been so long since i had last felt this inside of me. I thought i was lost, but somehow i have found a piece of myself that i had lost long ago.
Going to church and believing in God is not about the people that preach, but about God itself.
And about My Beautiful: I did not lose, i have only found a part of myself in losing you. I know i will have you back someday. our lifes are meant to be thogether.

All this happened to me this peaceful night. Im sorry if i didnt take enough time to write this but i am just too excited.

Check out this story, I watched it unfold this morning... it was great!

I woke up coughing up a storm. I think my smoking habit is getting to my throat a bit, cause it feels like I sorta have a perpetual sore throat. I think the vaporizer might help that, so I look forward to that one day soon.

So I go to the grocer, cause I wanna use the ATM and also get some cold stuff, maybe suppress the cough symptoms a bit. I get that and some apple juice, and start to walk to the bus stop. I look at the clock, I'm 10 minutes early, and I'm feeling, "Nice, I've got plenty of time." Right away, I look up and the bus I'm supposed to catch is entering my peripheral, but I'm a good 2/3rds of a block from the stop, and it's charging on...

I know immediately I've missed the bus. So I think for a moment. I figure, I'll bribe Scott or Jeh to take me in. Neither answer the phone. So I decide I'll just taxi it. It'll be 25 bones or so, but who cares. I don't wanna walk 1.5 miles to the Trax only to be an hour late to work.

I call the taxi. Shows up within 10 minutes. A man from northern Africa picks me up. I sense right away he's a religious man, and that's before I realized that the station the radio is on is a Christian station. I tell him I'd love to go to Starbucks, then into work. I'm listening to the sermon. And this is surreal, cause the words the pastor guy is speaking resonate in the deepest part of my being. I remember him talking about always choosing joy. Being grateful for the blessings Jesus has given you in your lfie, etc... Except for the fact that the words are being spoken from an egoic perspective, they are dead on balls accurate to what I'm finding is a very happy way to live life.

So we go to Starbucks. And as I'm around people, I no longer can resist the urge to talk to those who are around me. A lady allows me to cut her in line, for reasons I don't know. After a brief moment, where I sensed her presence, I noticed she had a bandaid on her arm, and I say, "You gave blood this morning." (I thought in my mind it was for donating blood.) All the sudden she just starts talking... "Yeah, last month my cholesterol was 170 which is real good, but they wanted me to come back to make sure everything is okay." And I say, "You were very worried about your health?" And she says, "Well, I wasn't till the doctor started telling me ____ [I can't remember this part] But I feel really good."

And I say, "I really wouldn't worry about it. You're going to be here a while, you have some love to share with people who need it."

She says, "Yes! I was just [again, can't remember, something about a project she was working on for children]..."

And I say, "He's just a doctor, they're wrong all the time. I wouldn't worry about it."

Then my latte came up, and I said, "Thanks so much for the chat, you're amazing."

Lady hugs me... HEHE a complete stranger. Is it bad to hug someone when you don't know their name? HEHEHE

So then I get back in the taxi, and I'm talking to the guy from Africa. And we get here. It ended up being 32 dollars. I give him 40, and I was going to ask for 4 dollars change, but something just came out of my mouth, "Keep the rest. This was a delightful ride. Thank you."

Dude looked at me like I saved his dog's life.

And I realize, "Why give 4 dollar tip, when I can be looked at this way if I give twice that?"

And it just dawns on me... those who live richly are those who haven't a care in the world about how much money is in their pocket, or in their bank account, but who just know that they are going to be great, and therefore use what resources they have to remind those around them that they are rich, too.

I can't imagine giving a standard tip ever again, if someone serves me kindly. Why give the minimum expectation, when you can be the bright spot of their day by doubling or tripling that?

Nothings different, yet everything is different. You know?

Accepting the pain or suffering and go through it rather than thinking about it seems indeed to free you from it -ad not just from it.

accept (the now) and release (the past)

The opposite (worst case) is to THINK about it and ask the worst question with this respect "Why?" - such a question will just increase the pain with the potential to destroy yourself rather than the pain.

Destroying pain doesn't just destroy THIS pain - it does much more than this:
it destroys also the fear (of pain, of loss, of death) ...

So one can also say:
fear and thinking prevents you from getting free

Does something like this happen to anyone else also?

It is happening to me more and more often - somehow I loose my connection to the past, to the future and end up in the very now - it is such a wonderful feeling that I'd like to experience it more often ... and I do.

Without any warning it suddenly happens - for some (unknown) time everything around me becomes totally new, totally fascinating, nothing else but this very moment matters - it seems like I smell the air of my childhood ... I'm shivering somehow ... my heart is laughing

In these moments it becomes all so obvious that all and everythnig makes sense - in particular that there is no sense at all to hold on to anything

To find freedom and love (why else are we here?) is ... to release and trust ... we knew it (felt it natively) when being a child ... and we feel so indescribable happy when we feel it again.

Thank you all for helping me to find that "open secret".

On Being "Stuck"

Being an optimist I like to suppose that most people are growing, even if slowly, as people, and that this inner growth is the actual source of real happiness, rather than external goals. Downside of this optimism, however, is with being "stuck" in growth internally it becomes hard to feel happy. In such a situation no external support will reinforce happiness, because it must come from within through growing.

Because often we would like to follow our hearts and simply cannot. The obstacle may seem external, but often as not I feel sure the external obstacles to the heart simply conceal an inner obstacle, a kind of "writer's block" in the area of creating a heart-centered life.

One can talk about responsibility and choice, integrity and simply doing one's best in the moment - all these things are precious, maybe even priceless in all honesty - but the reality is that "stuck happens".

Some stuck states seem to me to be in fact a collective phenomenon. In the case of the karmic perspective, we signed on as humans and therefore we to an extent bear the brunt of karmic responsibility for humankind, perhaps? So if pervasive guilt or lingering depression, if incomprehensible unwillingness steals away inner happiness, then the responsibility can still be taken without getting hung up on it. In their own time and pace stuckness resolves, of its own nature, no matter what anyone else has to opine about the subject.

I so want to talk about this particularly in relation to the extremes in our society of stress-linked inner challenges: depression and anxiety. These two conditions may be paired up with their physical stress-linked conditions of cancer and heart disease, because the intrinsic message of ALL FOUR of these prevalent conditions is that you're stuck with them and they won't just go away, but require inner and outer work, dedication, responsibility, and all the above.

The heart of these problems for me is that their lesson lies not in them but in ourselves, in how we respond and choose. Even in the midst of the gravest depression, it is possible to be aware that one chooses differently, and even if one cannot DO or even BE any different, in fact that choice to grow is what makes all the difference between "being stuck" and "being in an especially rough period of personal growth".

Choice, even without freedom of action, even without control over one's body, mind, heart or soul for that matter, remains our primal freedom and the path to the human heart, always present in awareness. Even experiencing hell, the heart can choose heaven.

gratitude

I belong to about 300 tribes, and I keep coming back to the fact that this one is one of my favorites, maybe even my favorite-favorite.

This seems to be my dream tribe, where people consistently own their own stuff and don't project their stuff onto others. The conversations are regularly thoughtful, reasonable, and respectful.

In other tribes I get baited and dissed and confronted and called nasty names. I don't get it; I'm the same person there as I am here. Yet here I've experienced harmony, and elsewhere I experience discord.

I have to say that Tribe.net is the best thing that's happened to me this year.

Yet I keep running into people who seem to be all about anger--about disowning it, about making anger the co-conspirator with that ultimate evil, fear (as though there are some emotions that are any less holy than others)...

And yet these same people seem to revel in baiting and picking and evoking angry responses, creating spaces that are the antithesis of the safe spaces they claim to want to create.

In this tribe I am able to have a reasonable expectation of not being baited, of being spoken to in tones of authenticity and vulnerability.

I find myself approaching this tribe with a sense of openness and anticipation that I don't even have with tribes that I myself moderate. It always makes me happy when I see new postings here, because I know I'll probably feel good about being alive when I get finished reading them, even if they're not about happy-happy subjects.

So thanks to Andre for moderating with such a light hand and such a sweet presence, and thanks to all the kind souls I encounter here. I am grateful to be able to come to a place that brings out the best in me.

"Sudden" Awakening

My awakening was sudden. I went to a far away country, to attend 2 weeks of a personal development course. I had a Kundalini awakening, as a result of various meditations, which were not specifically intended to do that. I fell in love with myself, and with the world.

My sexual energy, denied for so long, awoke, and was like a raging river running through me. I was walking around in a perpetual state of arousal, a feeling and state previously unknown to me. I fixated on another partipicant, and seduced him! Me! This was unthinkable behaviour for me, you have no idea how out of character it was for me.

I returned to my home, a 100% different character, and have never been the same since. The consequences were tremendous and life altering. Far too big a tale to go into here. Perhaps some day I will write a book about it all, who knows.

My entire perspective on life changed, over those couple of weeks, and for the better. It was llike I woke up from a deep sleep. Perhaps the blue pill was wearing off. Perhaps they slipped red pills into my food :-)

In any case, despite unbelievable pain, and massive uncomfortable changes in every aspect of my life, I am far happier today, and every day. My perspective on life is the same (ie, my newly awakened version) and so is my sexual appatite.

Anyway, I thank all the gods and goddesses for my awakening, and I thank myself for continuing to search, until I came to that point. It has been 7 years now, and my life is all the better for going through it all. There was no possibility of going back. Once you taste the truth, see it, hear it, feel it, you can no longer deny it. My life, once back from that course, could no longer continue as it had; in denial.

Of course, to say this awakening was sudden is in the same vein as those "overnight" success stories we read about in the papers. Artists who have slaved for years, and are finally discovered, and then all over the media.

My awakening came after years of unhappiness, of searching for answers, of struggling with internal personal values, and external imposed values. The good daughter, good wife, good mother etc. The need to protect oneself doing battle with the "naive" sense that the Universe is benign. Not sure if you know what I mean with that last bit, but it's hard to explain feelings.

Thank you, Andre for giving me this opportunity to share my experience (or a tiny portion of it!)
